Verified ReviewerCustomer service in one word SUCKS!!
Not only do they lie about their coverage and their unlimited plans and data, they just charge your card whenever they feel like it! They have yet to make any sense of how their billing cycles work.
Coverage starts on the third of the month, but the billing cycle ends on the 23rd of the previous month. What the heck! And to top it off, I had a mishap with my iPhone, the cheapest one they carry, and the insurance that I supposedly pay in my unlimited plan, would not cover its damages!
I have had a cell phone since they were first introduced way back in the bag phone days, and satellite phone days.
This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with since the introduction of cell phones. It's even worse than Verizon, and that is very hard to do!
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Don’t get involved with this nonsense!!

Verified Reviewer | Oklahoma City, OklahomaResolved: Fradulant billing for WiFi data usage
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. Discontinued service, moved to PureTalk MVNO with same network ATT, 5g instead of 1g and better price for veterans.
They just changed us to the 5G plan because we had exceeded the 1G by 700mb and it doesnt reset to the 1G. The CC rep gave my husband the BS about how it automatically switches to cell towers, etc. He spent years with major carriers and knows more about how this stuff works than most in the business except the engineers. They are charging for WiFi access and saying they dont.
Were switching to Pure Talk 5 gigs for $20.00 ($17.00 for veterans), same ATT service and customer service in Arizona and Florida. If you use data on WiFi (home, office, etc.) check your bill.
User's recommendation: Check everything, don't beliefe what reps say.

Verified Reviewer | Hillsborough Township, New JerseyCharged $350 for 5 days of data and never used phone
Spoke to rep to get travel package, Scotland 6 days. informed that because they were a discount carrier they had NO provision for people traveling.
He said phone no problem data expensive. 2 options: They could turn if off, BUT if there was an emergency I would be in trouble or Option 2, just don't use it. We never used it!!! Yes I did not make sure it was in airplane mode every second.
I told them the rep did not say make sure you're in airplane mode or we will charge you $380. Speaking to the company I said if you can show me 1 time I used the service I would gladly pay the bill. i also asked for the recording of interaction with their rep. They would not do anything, privacy policy.
they said the listened to conversation and felt i was informed. So basically tough crap!
They obviously don't care about their employees haphazard and unprofessional way of dealing with customers while working from home. My guess is that he was distracted by a basketball game!
User's recommendation: no good if you travel, speak to at least 2 representatives, compare their stories!

Verified ReviewerHow to deal with consumer cellular
This review will be long but will assist other users...been there done that.
First off company is easy to contact until about 7 -8 pm est, next never talk to a cr , they are mostly know nothings, supervisors are easy and quick to get but are highly variable in competence . When in a bind ask for a call back from supervisor first name Preston, he knows magnitudes than than any of the others.
Only speak to someone whose voice lets you know he/she is on the ball, if not call back until you contact someone who seems polite and is conversant in standard English.
Aside : company has broken contact with T - Moble if your phone is in any way connected to T-Mobile be prepared to get a new sim or phone .
If you re using a sim card phone be aware that no new sim card phones are being made anywhere, news that CC is soon getting a new IRIS EZ SIM card phone is incorrect, only places that have SIM card phones such as the Nokia 2780 are on line and not at Target or Wallmart, try Best Buy. Make sure phones are listed as unlocked and not identified with Verizon or T - Mobile. The only sim cards from CC are activated and you will be charged for a separate account if you try to stockpile them. Target and Walmart are unloading their supplies of CC unactivated sim cards, soon the only place to get sim card only phones, Nokia 2780 nd a couple of Samsungs will be ebay.
Expect that soon CC will run out f activated Sims but will still support proper unlocked nokia 2780 s and unactivated sim cards even the ATT/CC ones, they are ot the same as CC activated ones.
Next : never use chat it is a horror have a second CC phone or a borrowed phone.
Next : never trust any answer from any CC person except supervisor Preston repeat questionsto a supervisor, they are sparse in what they say you will
' have to do a lot of research online on your own to get sources for proper sim card phones and sims. If having problems talk to multiple supervisors never let a cr get in the way.
Next : never expect a supervisor to be able to guide you through the areas of a phone, they will read from a manual which at least as far as Nokia is concerned is rubbish several additional required steps are not in the manual, you will probably have to press extra icons but be careful not to turn on or off the wrong areas in the phone.
REPEAT : CC is phasing out sim card only phones sim e only phones only need to be turned on by wireless connection then can operate without wi fi in the house but you will need to go to Target or another wi fi location and contact cc with a working phone.
You will need to know how to operate a sim e phone or have a supervisor walk you through how to get your phone connectstockpile sim cards and sim only unlocked phones to cc .. sim e phone, the supervisor may leave out steps be prepared to click in icons not mentioned by supervisor to connect to network and download .NEVER NEVER expect any cc representitive at Target to be of any use.
- Still service sim card only phones
- Company and employees full of misinformation not senior friendly
- Chat is garbage
- Phasing out sim card only phones
Preferred solution: information
User's recommendation: stock pile sim cards and sim card only unlocked non verizon and t - mobile phones from the net if tecnically challenged or cannot have wireless, both fit me, in the homeh

I have two phones which I have paid for the sims for and I now learn that one or both of the Telephones can very easily both have 5 G or one have 5 G and the other have four G.
The one Samsung Phone has terrible voice quality and the other I have the UNUSABLE SIM due to very weak transfer Agents in their Call Centers.
User's recommendation: Beware of Agents with too little knowledge present the Pre-Paid Products

No such thing as customer service. Cannot access website.
No chat. Overcharged as I see 2 phones offer for $55.00 with unlimited talk, text and data. I pay $63.00 for 1 phone and cannot reach voicemail. Text messages not getting through.
*** battery. How do you spell RIPOFF?
This was brought to my attention by a daughter who could not reach me and the police she called to check on me. The police could not get through either, they said.

Verified ReviewerThey suck!
My elderly boss lost everything he owned in a recent flood. I called CC to get him a new phone and explained the circumstances, and they said he has to go buy a new phone at Walmart or Target and get them to activate it.
The man can hardly walk, and they want him to go wait in line to have someone activate a phone at a retail store. Shove it up your *** That's what I have to say to Consumer Cellular. There's no reason to treat elderly people in that way. There's no excuse good enough to explain their behavior.
I explained everything to them and got nothing. No empathy, no help, nothing. Thanks for nothing!
*** A bunch of monkeys can do a better job than that. *** from the flood victims in Texas!
User's recommendation: Do not use this company
False advertising and *** customer service
This is the worst cell company I have ever had. They do not do what they say on the commercials, they have false advertising. They say they are Unlimited which is also wrong because they put a limit and don't even tell you about it.
User's recommendation: They suck and are no help

You are lousy service in an emergency. I cannot access voicemails.

Verified ReviewerRude Supervisor Who Hung Up So I Could Not Take The Survey And Give Him Zero
On June 13 at about 8:30 p.m. Eastern time I was speaking to a rep named Elena by phone.
She could not answer a question about why my green battery light on my base was flashing a lot and switched me to her supervisor. He was a rude, arrogant twerp who should never be interacting with customers, and, despite my telling him I am on the survey, purposely hung up so I could not take it. I would have given him the worst rating, which I am now letting the readership here know (I hope Consumer Cellular monitors these complaints on Pissed Consumer), and I would have given Elena a high rating but twerp supervisor (I did not get his name) would not allow access to the survey. I think this is a fire-able offense and he should be dismissed.
If he is doing this to me, he is probably doing this to others and denying both the customer and the company that pays him to take care of its customers (we are not his customers!) the opportunity to rate the service as the company is requesting.
I want Consumer Cellular to track this call based on the date and time provided, and my speaking to Elena first before the transfer to the twerp. This supervisor makes the entire organization look bad, and he is a ridiculous character who is of no character except arrogant, rude, disrespectful and dumb***.
- Low price
- Most of the time nice helpful reps
- Some reps are rude including arrogant supervisors
- No explanation of flashing battery light when battery is charged
- Low service

My phone stopped working Saturday. Someone somehow hacked into my phone and disrupted by phone/texts.
I had to wait till Monday (today) to report the issue. I called first thing in the morning. Call #1 i was told to callback in 30 minutes and theyd get my phone up & running. Call #2 i was told it will take 24-48 hours.
I asked for a supervisor and weirdly the call was disconnected. Call #3 i spoke with a supervisor who said give him 3-4 hours and *** call me back to get my phone back on. Call #4 now if i dont hear from them before 9pm EST to call. OOOOOkay so call #5 nooe nothing at everyone's gone for the day.
I had to listen to 90 minutes total all day long while on hold consumer cellukar award winning customer service.

VERY PROFESSIONAL AND REASONABLE JUST THOUGHT THE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW. I EXPERIENCED A DELAY AND THEY WERE RIGHT ON IT AND WITH A DISCOUNT!
User's recommendation: Unlimited plan
No help for weak cell signal
If you live in an area with a strong signal, youre in luck. Otherwise, because CC doesnt own a toweryou cant get a boost to your signal.
Customer Service, though friendly, has been on the decline for years.
This is my 12 th year with this company, and the agents are really lacking the knowledge of product and application now. A lot of the agents work from home, so the standards have suffered greatly.
User's recommendation: Tough call, since the pricing is good…they aren’t perfect.

Verified ReviewerI tried to contact Consume Celluar
I tried to use the chat today to help fix a issue with my Moto 2023 phone. The chat timed out in the middle of a conversation and I had to re-long in to get back to the person I was chatting with about the issues with my phone.
On the second time out, the site said chat was not available. This is the middle of the day on Monday, around 11:30 Am. I called and had a 10 minute wait to speak to someone and when they came onto the phone, I could barely hear them, sounded like they where 30 feet away and using their speaker phone. I had to hang up and then drive 20 miles round trip to a Target where a person named Stephanie fixed the problem is about one minute.
I won't even go into the seven days it took to move my phone number to my new phone. This time out thing on your chat is horrible.
Some of us older folks cannot type fast and it the time out makes me want to go to another provider. It used to be an excellent customer service, now, not s much.
- Cheap plans
- Person that sold me the iris phone did not listen
- Horrible time-outs on the chat through the website
Preferred solution: Good service would be unique.
User's recommendation: Go to a Target and get your phone for Consumer Celluar, the web site is awful.
HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, AWFUL service
Recently switched to Consumer Cellular and hate it! Signal is almost non-existent even though we were told it was running off the Verizon tower which has excellent signal here.
Takes twice as long to load anything and dropped calls are a daily occurrence. Awful company, terrible service, want to switch just to be able to function normally!
User's recommendation: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Verified ReviewerSays I am not on a network only energency call.
I called about 5 times for the same issue. I am hoping that this last call fixes the problem but I highly doubt it as it hasn't yet.
The man was very nice and helpful, so wish me luck. My phone keeps saying I am not on a network although I pay Consumer Cellular every month on time.
So why can I only make emergency calls? If I turn my phone off, then back on, I can make a call or two but then it is back to the same issue - no network.
Preferred solution: A credit for the annoying service and I would like my phone to work.
