Consumer Cellular - Misleading Seniors and the Disabled
No where on their website, their marketing letters, TV commercials OR in the phone call do they indicate that based on your credit report they will demand auto pay OR ELSE...those are the words a supervisor, Nancy, stated to me. The "or else" was no service...too bad, so sad. They love to say they don't have a contract but, no matter what they may state, it is a contract when you DEMAND a payment with no other option and then follow it with OR ELSE.
I suggested they make that clear from the outset since 90% of their consumers are elderly and/or disabled. Some are easily misled, easy to confuse and overwhelm with verbiage. But they do not, they kindly ask if it's okay to run your credit report...which, again, is not stated anywhere upfront. Then after they run it, and only then, does the subject of auto pay come up. Most seniors by this time are too afraid or such to refuse the service. And that's shameful of Consumer Cellular to place a person, some venerable, in a situation of this sort.
Their condescending attitude is really the worst. This is NOT the company I dealt with over 3 years ago. I will be writing AARP of my concerns, as I am sure I am not the only senior/disabled person nearly taken in by their marketing strategies.
And just an FYI...in the age of consumers finances being hacked and compromised, no wise consumer is going to offer up their personal financial information to a company representative they do not know. To DEMAND it is unreasonable.
Reason of review: misleading marketing.

I will never be a Consumer Cellular customer. The reason?
Their condescending commercials that seem to indicate that if you're a senior citizen all you do is sit around talking about your stupid dog. I love my dog, but at 65 I have full time job and a life with many responsibilities.
This, and several other companies, talk DOWN to seniors as if all of us are idiot children. Effin STOP IT!!!
