I switched service to Consumer Cellular on Dec.31, 2019 and have spent 4 hours trying to switch back to Verizon and Jan. 2, 2020. No service inside my home and have been unable to download data in Abilene, TX an area that has excellent ATT service. If you want voice and bare bones texting (no photos) than go for it. Otherwise, steer clear. However, their customer service is better than Verizon.

Stay away | Consumer Cellular review from Eastland, Texas

My battery would not hold a charge so I ended up ordering a new phone since batteries are not available through Consumer Cellular. After looking online I found a battery at Batteries Plus and cancelled the phone I had ordered. No problem. Order was cancelled and credited back to my account. Or so I thought. 2 days later there was a debit for the cancelled phone taken from my checking account. When I contacted them to find out why they took the money out of my checking account after it had been cancelled and credited the answer I got was that I have to wait 5 business days to get the credit. But it had already been credited back! I will be cancelling this company as soon as I can get to the store to start a new phone company!

Stay away fom thees | Consumer Cellular review

Ordered a cellular phone from them it worked a couple days and failed. When called did not ring but caller received a message to leave one. Called to cancel and told owed I think it was $2.80 (Told them would not pay for something that did not work) but at end of month a bill for about $28 (Again wrote on a couple bills not paying for a broken thing they sent me. Still billing with late fees and going to turn it to bill collector. I DID NOT SEND IT BACK FOR WHAT PAID FOR UNIT, I STILL HAVE IT IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.

I called to switch carriers. They sent me a sim card. When I put it in the phone, it didn't work. They said I need account number and pin. (why didn't they say that the first call) so I gave it to them. They said phone should work. It didn't. Call the 4th time and they said there was no record of last call. But, now I can get service. Except they wanted to charge me from when I got the sim card. Idiot's!

Yes I know someone with similar problem, switching from Verizon to Sprint. Verizon puts a lock on your phone/service/number in attempts of forcing you to stay with them.

Go to Consumer Cellular office, call Verizon and tell them you want the code to un-lock; keep Verizon on phone until CC completes transaction; tell V you may have further questions (forcing them to do professional customer service). If CC tried once before they may have to contact main office to reset their system; 1 code for 1 time use; we went through 2-3 codes, took 2 ½ hours with both of us calling V on diff numbers to get through, and some of the codes they deliberately left off the last few digits so they didn’t work. Keep them on the phone until CC and you are completely done/you’re satisfied with it, and keep going up the chain of supervisor’s until you get what you require.

Keep yourself professional, don’t stoop to their tactics, and show them how you wish to be treated. I will be changing from V to CC soon too, Hope this helps, H
