Please be advised! I canceled my service on March 28, they still took money out of my account due to the fact that that money was to pay for Februrarys Bill!. That will be the last time I use them!

No service center in or city

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - No local seniors' service center.
  • - Residents must travel 30 miles to Target; Walmart is listed online but does not handle Consumer Cellular issues.
Updated by user Nov 27, 2025

Not sure yet.

Original review Nov 26, 2025

Huge issue for many seniors in our city. There is no service center.

In order to deal with any of our specific needs, we need to go 30 miles to the Target store, and that is another issue. The service center in Target is all the way at the back of the store, too hard to do either in many cases.

Why they list Walmart as a service center during an online search, I do not understand. Walmart does not handle Consumer Cellular issues in our location or several other locations I checked.

Pros:
  • Good inexpensive service
Cons:
  • No actual service center in our city

Preferred solution: a service center here in our city, acknowledgement of this issue and they will resolve it soon.

User's recommendation: check where store locations are before you sign up

Consumer cellular should literally be avoided at all costs, they stink! My service dropped every day for months in a pleasant weather city and they could not explain why so I dumped them.

Do not believe their ads or anything they say. If you are not a Consumer Cellular customer do not become one. If you are, get rid of their stinky service and dump their phone in the trash where it belongs.

You buy cheap, you get cheap with Consumer Cellular. Many better, reliable services out there in their space.

  • - The new phone from Consumer Cellular never worked correctly.
  • - Support reps read from the manual and offered only resets; Samsung support did not exist.

My experience with Consumer Cellular was simply awful. The new phone I purchased through Consumer Cellular never worked correctly.

When I called Consumer Cellular for assistance, the representatives were reading from the same manual I had received with the phone. There did not seem to be any specific training in troubleshooting the specific phones they sell to customers. The calls ultimately ended with the representative suggesting a reset.

When I requested tech support just for Samsung phones, I was told it did not exist, and if I wanted help for the phone, I would have to find the customer service number/website myself. I wasted a lot of time and money with Consumer Cellular, and I am more than happy to go back to competent, knowledgeable, well-trained, experienced tech support in other countries.

Cons:
  • Customer service and tech support have limited knowledge

User's recommendation: Read reviews and complaints before committing to consumer cellular

Consumer Cellular service truly is garbage. I had dropped calls nearly every day.

They did nothing to address the issue, so I dumped them . The company advertises so much because they are losing massive amounts of customers and are desperate for business imo. I turn off their ads immediately. Their ads also suck, appropriately.

Do not believe anything they say.

Just look at the company's extremely poor ratings and comments online from consumers just like you. Avoid Consumer Cellular!

So call Samsung. If it is a phone issue, you need the manufacturer.

Look up the number.

I found it in 30 seconds. You wasted 20 to 30 times that finding this site and posting.

LIES.....

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - I’m a 10yr Consumer Cellular customer upgrading two phones.
  • - AARP rate was $50, but after a callback it’s 5%.
  • - Promo for $299 phones, $599 charged.

10 yr. consumer cellular customer.

Upgrading 2x phones and attempting to get a better monthly rate. Told if an AARP member rate would be $50, signed with AARP, called CC back and it was only a 5% reduction. Then was told the 'current promotion' allowed for a $299.00 phone, bought two. When paperwork with shipment arrived, price was $599 each.

One lie is a mistake; two lies are a pattern. Will be changing carriers once phones are returned and payments cancelled.

Cons:
  • Misleading customer service

Preferred solution: Full refund

Bad Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Replacement under warranty failed; protection plan was not transferred.
  • - Paid 97.90 out of pocket; service is otherwise good.

07/07/2025 I called them to request a replacement phone as the one I had through them, the front part of this flip phone came apart. The lady that answered the phone was the main issue here - hard to understand from not speaking proper English & also speaking so fast that it was very hard to understand her.

I have been with Consumer Cellular for well over 5 years and the phone service itself is great. They pride themselves on their customer service call centers so they claim - but when it comes to a REPLACEMENT PHONE due to an issue of warranty protection on their own, there is none and this phone I received from them in 10/2024. In the past years I have had a protection plan with them paying 2.00 per month extra to have the extra coverage just in case of a problem with the phone. Come to find out the hard way, when I got this phone in October of 2024, the person I spoke with FAILED on their part to transfer my protection plan onto my new phone and I did request it.

So, to make a long story short, I had to pay out of my pocket for a new phone, taxes, shipping and handling in the amount of 97.90 of which I am not happy at all about.

Even speaking to a SUPERVISOR about the issue - got me no where with them as according to her, they don't make any mistakes when it comes to customer service. A buyer Beware concern.

Loss:
$98

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Make sure you keep good records on file for your phone service.

Dropped Calls Daily, Do Not Buy Or Switch

AI Highlights
  • - Bought cheap and got cheap.
  • - The company couldn't resolve dropped calls for weeks.
  • - Do not believe their ads; spend more for higher quality.

Bought cheap and got cheap. The company could not resolve the dropped calls after several weeks, so I dropped them.

Do not believe their ads. Spend a little more and get a lot more from a much higher quality company.

Loss:

Cons:
  • Poor customer service
  • You buy cheap you get cheap and maybe cheated
  • Frequent dropped calls

Preferred solution: Do not tell customers you have the same reliable service as others in your space. That certainly was not true in my experience and the company was terrible in handling this issue after recognizing the problem and not being able to resolve it.

I'm NOT giving them a star. They have allowed people to get into my accounts and learn how to *** me better with fake stories of how they ARE the ones who ARE hacked.

Google and Amazon let them use my devices like it was theirs. Moreover, they used my social media accounts for dating services, got *** in my name, [gross things too not normal stuff) they are sick] They are doing ransomware, bitcoin, This is the Texas Crypto Mining and other people involved. They have hacked me since Nov 2024. There are several people working together.

It's a group that feel they entitled to everything.

GitHub and Microsoft Developers are doing this on Google workstation. I have evidence of it and pictures.

Their ad says "same tower, same coverage" but NOT the same quality in that statement. I found their service quality to be very inferior to the brand name services like Verizon or ATT, both of which I recommend versus the very inferior Consumer Cellular.

Their customer service is also not good, and calls frequently drop. Go to another company to be happy with your service. CC is like buying a lower-class grocery store brand for a lower price that does not taste nearly as good as the name brand. Your phone service, especially for emergencies, is too important to use Consumer Cellular's unreliable service.

They advertise way too much which could also indicate they are losing customers and trying to lure in others. Don't go with them.

Diania Nky

Rumor has it that they charge or terminate you if you are not a revenue- productive customer even if you have an unlimited plan.

No Response. Consumer Cellular Doesn't Care. 10-year plus Customer They Have Changed.

Original review Oct 18, 2024
We are 10-Year plus Consumer Cellular Customers, who transitioned from AT&T, and recently Upgraded & requested a Trade-In on one of our iPhone 14 Pro phones to iPhone 16 Pro Max, phone, of which, we have previously done multiple times via Consumer Cellular, e.g., iPhone 10 XR to iPhone 14 Pro. Their Trade-In Program Tool & Customer Service Representatives depict one Trade-In Value, however, upon placing an order for a new phone & trading in an old phone, the Trade-In Value is significantly less than expected.

This Upgrade Trade-In Practice is wrong & potentially Deceptive, Fraudulent & Bait n Switch.

Given new ownership & a new management team, Go Elsewhere & Anywhere given Consumer Cellular is Not the company it once was! We forego-ed the Trade-In and have subsequently filed Complaints with the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission & Better Business Bureau accordingly.

Consumer Cellular uses AT&T signal towers. The two are in this thing together. Just know that and maybe beware.

GTCR Equity Firm owns since 2020. Founders Stanley Golder Carl Thoma Bryan Cressey Bruce Rauner Service has gone bad, had 5 day outage in Spring '24 and then a month of scant service.

Actually had a Mexican language Amber Alert supposedly out of Houston TX, despite having blocked all govt/alert/emerg/notifications. Calls & texts delivery delayed by a week or more for over a year. Difficulty getting online with data mode. Routinely receive ''live" voicemails when connect to data, despite having it turned off too.

Trade in iphone was stolen... comp said fedex never picked it up--which they did from our mailroom--never scanned as picked up.

Fees increase every month, the recent bill jumped 6% just for Universal Fee. Have changed something in the data usage calc , almost doubled 'usage' every month for a year despite turning on the Data Saving mode.
