I changed to Consumer Cellular because of advertising on TV and AARP. What a joke, I had to purchase their phone and sim card because the phone I had just purchased would not accept a Consumer Cellular sim card.

I found while traveling the service reception was not always available. After a few months I decided to go back to Verizon because of service availability. I called Consumer Cellular and canceled service they ask why I was cancelling I told them my issue's. Not once during that conversation I was told to write a follow up letter of cancellation.

Three months later I receive a letter from a collection agency saying I owe for 30 days of service because I did not write a letter of termination. I informed them I did not know and was not told by anyone that a letter needed to be written. Their response was, it's explained in the contract in fine print.

I would not recommend Consumer Cellular to anyone.

Buyer Beware of their shady advertising. Go to Verizon or At&t!!

Reason of review: Return, Exchange or Cancellation Policy.

Monetary Loss: $115.

If Consumer Cellular is so bad, why are they rated #1 by Consumer Reports? I solicit an explanation, not an opinion.

QUOTE : "TV and AARP". I apologize if you're offended, but I really can't think of two worse reasons to check out anything.

TV is the world's wasteland, and AARP is nothing but an insurance hawker ; they've been after me for years to buy this that or the other thing but about 10 years ago I started throwing away their mail, unopened. Remember : ALWAYS cancel everything and anything IN WRITING and serve it via Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested. Make sure to do so in advance of the required 30 day notice period ; i.e. make sure to serve it a week or two before the 30 day period.

Keep copies of all correspondence and above all, your postal receipts and the signature card which you will receive in your mail. Your case is then legally admissible.
