Decent cell service provider

I have been with this company for about 3 years now and have been treated fairly on every issue that has come up over the years. There have been a few minor things that don't warrant mentioning. If you want a no contract service that you are willing to change with your own needs this is a service for you. I think a person that always uses phone or data services in large amounts might benefit from another carrier, but if your a person who sometimes talks a lot but some months doesn't this can be a great service to have. You can maintain a phone number for only around $10/month if you want to pay per minute or simply go up from there. Be warned that if you suddenly jump a plan in the middle of the month both the money and minutes is prorated, for example, if you add say 200 minutes for $5 in the middle of the month, you will pay $2.50 but only get 100 minutes. Keep on top of your plan, let it flex as you want, and walk away any time for any reason for no additional charges!

Consumed by Consumer Cellular

Told I can transfer two numbers from original cell co to consumer cellular. told them the model # of our two phones, they sent sim cards. Our phones don't have sim cards, so I wrote them through both contact us and their other email addresss explaining this. They also said they wanted access to my checking but that it was a formality since I had chosen paper by mail billing. they took money out of the checking in violation of our agreement. they also turned on their phone service and my original company off and seized the two phone numbers BEFORE resolving the sim card issue. So I asked for two of their new phones, and they havn't acknowledged these requests and I have NO phone service working. Now I have lost my original two numbers so when I reestablish I will have to spend heavily of time and money reprinting and renotifying everyone of whatever the new numbers will be. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE AARP, consumer cellular should be called CONSUMED BY CELLULAR COMPANY

Overcharges and excessive rates

I had tried Consumer Cellular about 8 months ago. I had set up a 2 hour a month usage with them. I had gone over the time by about 12 minutes. The wanted to charge me 160.00. I had them agree to 90.00. I had set up a 4 hour a month usage with them. Their next bill was 190.00. I had called them to complain about the excessive billing. My usage was about 90 minutes well under the agreed time limit. The customer service rep at Consumer Cellular said that they bill on or around the 20th of the month. My phone was shut off by the company. I had called in again and found out that the bill was 230.00! I had never paid them this amount and Now I am getting bills for 320.00 despite not having used their service 6 months!

It seems consumer cellular should be called consumer frauandular. I cancelled my service because the phones we received were low grade and didn't work as i was told they would.

Their pricing is also a sham. A $50 plan turns into a $65 plan because of state taxes, but in my state there is no state taxes. They also charged me for 2 months after i cancelled.

By no means should anyone use this company, so please keep your money and go with anyone but them. BIGGEST RIPOFFS IN THE PHONE BUSINESS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm postponing my present subscription to Consumer Cellular, until I can determine if these complaints are real, or if they might be written by competing cell companies. I wouldn't be surprised, considering the excessive cost of the major cell providers and the cutthroat demeanor of their competitors.

Is there any way to tell?

I would think these reports are from real people. I do not believe that other cell phone companies would take the time to make the bad rap messages.

My present carrier rep says that his company gets many former CC customers. You get what you pay for in the world. The rates are deceivingly low, but they make up for them in hidden and sudden fees. I am a former CC customer who also received very poor customer service.

CC rents air time from and uses the ATT cellular system. If you bought ATT service you would get the same service, but at least someone will patiently listen to you and not argue.

I learned my lesson. I will not go back to CC.

Total Rip Off Customers

consumer Cellular with no Contract and with AARP is a total rip off, a liar and please don't believe anything they say as truth. You will get a phone that won,t work and you send the cell phone in to be fixed and you are now stranded with no cell phone and the cost now for your service triples in your no contract service with cellular and now you are stuck with a large bill and no cell phone and you must pay them or you will continue get late fees without a cell phone. PAY UP IMMEDIATELY AND CANCEL THEM AND LET ALL YOUR FRIENDS KNOW ABOUT THIS RIP-OFF BUSINESS before getting started with them.

Indeed. I'm going on 6 months of charged service for a phone that doesn't work - neither CC or Motorola want to back their phones.

BUT THEY STILL CHARGE THE $10 FEE FOR THAT LINE EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO ACTIVITY ON THAT LINE - and refuse to refund the service fee for the service they never provided. I don't think I will ever be compensated by CC - they really don't care about their customers.

Phone quit working

My great grandson of 3 years old had my phone I said no don't play with my phone when I took the phone some message appeared then the screen went blank I could not get any thing even the main screen went blank. When I called they informed me I had to send it in because they could not get it back but I would have to pay to send it in and then if what was wrong was under warenty then would fix the phone and send it back or I could upgrade but that would cost me 15.00 dollars I asked if they could and to my bill they said no but when I got the phone they would give me a 10.00 dollar credit this upset me so I closed my account they said why and I told them because you wont help me.

so thank you but no thank you.

most companys will send another phone then you send the other one back. also calls drop or you could not hear the caller.then they charged me 10.00 more for service lol.

Had a similar experience. The phone my mom selected died within 6 months of using it (she is an extremely light cell user - hardly ever calls anyone).

In Dec, I called CC to advise them of the problem. They immediately took no responsibility and passed me onto Motorola. Motorola takes no responsibility for their phone and expects you to spend as much as $10-15 to ship it back to them - they refused to issue an RMA and return label. After 6 months (and continuous billing for a line not being used), CC still refused to address the problem and just expects me to pony up another $35 for a POS phone.

For a company that claims to be helping the elderly, they sure had no problem screwing my mother over on her phone. I would not recommend their service to anyone.

It is worth it to pay a higher service fee and ACTUALLY GET SOME GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Avoid Consumer Cellular if at all possible.

More on Consumer Cellular

I've done my part and complained to everyone I can think of regarding this awful company and the way they ripped us off. I keep seeing more and more complaints and can't stress how important it is that everyone start complaining to AARP, BBB, AG, and local TV stations. If everyone raises as much *$%# as I did, maybe someone will take notice. Another thing is that they continue to try and sell us phone service.. Wow!! I get something in the mail about every two weeks!! I want them to go away. By the way, they are headquartered in Portland Oregon, but there is no way to contact an executive office. In other words you can't go to the top to complain.

Oh and another thing once they turn your phone bill too collections and you did'nt pay what they told you and forcing their phone service on their customers interest is applied on the your prior bill even though I had paid my bill for that one month when I was with them and I had told them cancel my service with them and they wanted a written statement saying that I didn't want their service after I made it loud and clear on the phone and now consumer cellular applied interest on the phone bill with collections five cents everyday keeps on getting bigger cellular has applied five cent interest on the phone bill.

An important option you have is to file a complaint with the FCC. That is a government agency that regulates cell phone companies.

Their customer service SUCKS big time! Was just on the phone talking to at least 4 of their so called representatives concerning my bill. The last one put me on hold while he had my phone turned off. Called back a 5th time, it was the same ***(saying that he was a supervisor, OH really!) and all he could say is that he was sorry.

Customer Service does not care about customers

In December 2012 I received a bill from Consumer Celluar for $183.11. I wasn't very happy so I called customer service, they said they would give me a courtesy credit down to $92.04. I then asked for a supervisor,, and she refused to do anything. My highest bill was in the $50.00 range. Needless to say I refused to pay the bill. Every month they add a $10.00 late charge and now collections. They say I changed my plan to early. My plan period was the 12th of the month until the 11th of the following month. I changed my plan December 12th at 1:12 AM EST. They say it is 10:12 PM PST on December 11th. In none of their literature it does not say anything about PST. This company seems to enjoy ripping off older people. They hope you forget to change your plan in order to make more money. Many older people are their customers, because they are referred by AARP. Many of these older people live on a fixed income, and every cent is important to them. This company needs to wake up and stop ripping off seniors.

Voicemails

I checked my voicemail and when I was done my phone informed me that the messages were charged to my minutes, I think that sucks, read every word of information before you even think about ConsumerCellular. Also The coverage is not as they say.I tried to call my home from fourty miles away and had no bars at all.I checked www.ConsumerCellular/maps. It showed that I should have coverage, this is a3G network or is it. If i knew ATT was the provider I would have past, I had problems with T Mobile, thats why I went to ConsumerCellular.

Jerked around by CC csr's and its website

This has been going on since early October, when I purchased a phone from CC It was not the right phone for me and I returned it, precipitating a string of emails in which CC's incompetence and lack of transparency were appallingly visible. Since I was reluctant to buy another phone from an operation that is so obviously not oriented toward my best interest I asked if I could buy a phone from another vendor and transfer the SI|M| card. Essentially I was told I would rot in *** if I did that. So I went online to organize the purchase. This was not possible. The "change phone" program is a series of feedback loops that lead eventually to the message (paraphrasing) This number is already assigned. Get another one, dummy! I went through the program numerous times in case I had made a mistake. I entered and entered again personal data that was already in the account I had entered to begin this descent into ***. I contacted CC's "consumer service" geniuses and got back messages saying they were sorry I was having a problem and I should go into my account and click on "change phone". Been there done that, numerous times. I have attempted several times to contact someone other than "customer service". Not possible, so I have copied AARP on everything since that's how I got CC in the first place. All you people who got CC because of the AARP relationship, CONTACT AARP!

Consumer Cellular Sucks

I contacted Consumer Cellular in November, 2011 regarding my phone that would not power on even with a full charge. The representative advised me that I had purchased a phone from Consumer Cellular with a known defect. I requested a new phone. The representative advised me that there was no warranty on the phone and I would have to purchase a new phone for $35.00. I refused and threatened to cancel my service. I was told they would look into other options. In December, 2011, I contacted Consumer Cellular again. The representative apologized and advised me that the additional $35.00 was for a new activation charge, not for a new phone. I, again, refused to pay and threatened to cancel my service. I was told they would look into other options. In each of the following months, I contacted Consumer Cellular and requested that they resolve this issue. Each time, they apologized and told me they were looking into other options. In May, 2012, after being stranded on the side of the road for over 6 hours because I had a phone with a known defect and service with Consumer Cellular that I could not access, I once again called Consumer Cellular in an attempt to resolve this issue. The representative apologized and told me there was nothing they could do to help me beyond my paying $35.00 and receiving a new phone. Therefore, I canceled my service. In June, 2012, I received another bill from Consumer Cellular for $16.07. I called and was told this was for charges billed in advance. I advised the representative that I would not pay for service that the defective phone would not allow me to access. In July, 2012, I received another bill, this time with a $10.00 late fee included. In August, 2012, I received another bill with a second $10.00 late fee included and a note advising me of their pending collection attempts. I called and spoke with a representative who agreed to waive the $20.00 in late fees and would attempt to take care of the last bill. Several hours later, I received a call from another Consumer Cellular representative who advised me that the last bill must be paid. I notified them that I was disputing the last bill since the service they were billing for could not be accessed with the defective phone they sold me. Further attempts to negotiate a settlement were unsuccessful. A the end of August, 2012, I received a call from a collection agency. They advised me that Consumer Cellular had included another $10.00 late fee and a $35.00 collection fee bringing the total to $61.07. I notified them of my dispute regarding the bill and that I would not pay for service that I was unable to access.

If you are a 1st time smart-*** phone user, Beware! DO NOT input any existing gmail or ymail address + password into the Huawei phone!

Before I even set up phone mail with a password, this smart-*** phone had grabbed all 1000+ email addresses attached to my accounts & stored them in an illogical & senseless order, without even accessing the gmail!

There is no video up for this phone. All in all,a horrible experience :cry

Phone service seems disconnected - Why??

Today, both my husband's and my phones seem to be unavailable to the network. I've waited over 15 minutes on the phone & cannot get a customer service associate. I tried to go into the network to notify Consumer Cellular and found there is no option given to report this problem or seek a solution. Surely there must be a method to accomplish this. My account is paid up and another payment is not due for 10 days. I'm at a loss how to proceed. Please give me another avenue to contact this company and get some results. Thank you.

Customer Service does not work with customers.

I received a bill from Consumer Celluar in December 2112 for $183.11. The highest by bill ever was is in the $50.00 range. So, I called customer service. They said they would give me a courtesy credit, and brought bill down to $92.04. I still wasn't happy my bill should have been no more than the $50.00 range. I spoke with a supervisor and she would not bulge at all. I lowered my plan from 350 minutes down to 150 minutes. According to them I changed plan to early. My billing period was the 12th of the month until the 11th of the following month. I changed my plan !:12 AM on December 12th 2112 EST. They said I changed plan December 11th at 10:12 PN PST. Nowhere in there literature does it say anything about PST. Consumer Celluar seems to take pride in ripping off people over 50 years old, most customers are with AARP. They hope that you don't change your plans on time. Many older people live on a fixed income and every dollar counts. Stay away from Consumer Celluar they are suppose to save seniors money, but end up costing them more.
