I,ve called for help with my phone 9 times in 4 days and got no and I mean no co-operation from this company. I should have never switched. They put you on hold so long I could have taken a nap.I have never been treated this way by any company. The phone is not user friendly at all.The service reps just give you the run around. I don't think they are trained at all by this company. Now they want me to call them back on another phone to trouble shoot ????????????? my phone. Why didn't they just send me a phone that works. I've only had the phome for 2 weeks

Consumer Cellular left me with no phone service. Deactivated my old service before my new phone was unlocked.

I was transferring my service to Consumer Cellular using my friend's old phone. After receiving the new Consumer Cellular sim card, inserting it in the phone and find out it was locked, I called Consumer Cellular to notify them that the phone I was to use was locked.

They told me I would have to contact the old mobile phone company or manufacturer to get it unlocked and when I did to call back. The customer service person said they would not discontinue my present account so I could still have cell phone use through my present service until it was resolved. That's not what happened.

My present company is discontinued and I can't use Consumer Cellular because the phone I was going to use is locked and can't be used. Another Consumer Cellular customer rep told me that the activation process is automatic and nothing could have been done to prevent what's happened to me.

It would be considerate of Consumer Cellular to enhance their activation process to prevent this kind of situation from happening to someone else.

Sneaky fees on a free to try service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
You are right consumer cellular is the worst company I have ever dealt with and the fact that AARP endorses them makes me leary of AARP. It was supposed to be free to try - the phone I got would not accept pictures from my daughter and the support team was less than useless. So I upped the plan and still it did not work - So I cancelled and they hit me with fees and when I refused to pay they turned it over to a collection company - so much for the free to try - stay away from these gouchers

GOOD REPORT

I have used cell phones from the very beginning, back when the phones looked like a walkie talkie. My first phone had the battery in a shoulder pack. This is just to let you know that I am experienced with the use of a cell phone. I have used Verizon, etc. Consumer Cellular is equal to any of the services I have subscribed to. If I have to call, I speak with someone who is easy to understand, and is probably here un the USA. The wait times are minimal compared to Verizon. The coverage is as good as any I have had. To all the complainers, before you buy, make sure you'll be able to use it.

Using Own Phone Needs to Work with GSM Network Not Explained

By the time I signed up, got the Sim cards, I discovered after several calls that my phone would not work as my Samsung Brightside from Verizon works only on Verizon's CDMA nework. So, the time and effort on this first business with CC is less than stellar. Back to Square one checking the best deal with Affinity (AAA), StraightTalk, AT&T and maybe Verizon again. Ideally, I would like to get an older iPhone to enter the Apple infrastructure its ease of syncing with my Mac computers and iPad. I have an offer of a free iPhone 4 from a friend, but CC informes me at this juncture that I must buy one of their phones to use their service. Above complaints indicate that their phones are less than stellar quality.

You don't need to buy a phone from them. Just make sure the phone is unlocked and insert the CC SIM card. You should be good to go.

Nothing wrong with Consumer Cellular.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have been a Consumer Cellular customer for over 3 years. Three lines, 600 minutes, $45.00 a month. Coverage is outstanding, never been over billed, Fairly easy ease of communication with the home office. Having dealt with other providers that over-charged, added used minutes, had poor coverage, etc., I find it difficult to believe that someone would have problems with Consumer Cellular that could not be resolved. This being the case, I feel that a lot, not all, of the complaints about the company are by individuals who have nothing better to do, or are just nit-picking. Thank You.

Consumer Cellular works for me

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In reading these reviews (all 210 of them as of this date), what I find are some people who have legitimate complaints (which is what this website is for)... while others seem to be unaware of how cell phones and companies work (such as the person upset that he has to pay for incoming calls. Welcome to the cell phone world). I'm fairly new to Consumer Cellular but had no real problems getting set up, and they were bend-over backwards helpful when the cell phone I ordered from another company turned out to be a turkey and I had to order a different brand and model. No problem... they cancelled my existing account (no charge) and waited patiently for my new phone to arrive. I have no problem with legitimate negative reviews. I just think that some people here don't really have a legitimate reason to be posting-- and would believe posting negative reviews is not unusual for them. My experience with Consumer Cellular is quite positive. (And no, I have no association with the company aside from being a satisfied customer.)

Consumer cellular is a fraud and they charge you for everything

I open a temporary account with this company because I was visitin the US for a month. After one week of registering for the basic plan of 10$-15$ I received a text indicating I was about to go over my minutes limit. At this point I understood they charge you for the minutes you call and for the calls you receive too; this was not clear on the website I had to check several pages until I got to the place where they explain this. Considering this I made a thorough follow up on my plan usage and before even getting to 40% of my new plan I got the message saying I was over 80%. It was a fraud, they don't care for you as a customer so it's not worth it to stay with them. Finally when I closed the account it was not clear how to proceed for payment, they knew I was temporarily in the US, so my address was not my permanent address. I called them to end the deal and the lady didn't ask me for payment so I didn't know how I was supposed to do that. Then they contacted me on the email and stated I was under delinquent collection because I had not paid, but they did not contact me, how could I??? Then to a happy ending I got charged for other 10$ because of late payment... It's the worst service I've received. The network was not even good to sustain a conversation for more than 10 minutes, it was awful and expensive, with under-prepared service assistants.

I have had Consumer Cellular for only a month; am on the $10/month plan.

THEY DO NOT TELL YOU that you will BE CHARGED FOR INCOMING CALLS --or-- for CALLS THAT GO TO VOICE MAIL. They even CHARGE YOU FOR CALLS MADE TO THEM! That's it ---- I am going back to Verizon.

I tried con cell last year, i told them that i saw that my area showed service on their map and that i wasnt sure if it would work in my area..Carroll County ohio..Con Cell said it will work so i said ok send me one, they did, when it arrived i turned it on,,,no service,,so I called,,,they said the phone needs to be activated by me going to an area that showed service. ;;sounded strange to me that by activating my phone that service in my area would appear,,,so I had to drive 15 miles from my home to activate my phone, it activated and i drove 15 miles back home,,,to find still no service,,,to activate i had to disconnect from old service verison so then i had a phone with Con Cell with no service, i am a 100% disabled vietnam veteran not able to get out much,,now i had to get another phone service,,,this took me over by 15 days their 30 day money back policy before i returned their phone...I explained the problem to them and they said I still owed them $15.00,,,,I didnt pay...so the charged me $10. a month late fee, the amount got to be about $75.00...then they sent it to collections,,,then collections made my 780 credit score go to 650,,,this made my credit card service raise my rates from 9% to 11%, so i called today and paid it off,,,i feel i did nothing wrong and went out of my way by car to establish service....So much for everyone helping 100% disabled veterans...if anyone reading this would like to talk to be about it please call 440-283-****

Cusotomer support is misleading

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought a Consumer Cellular (CC) phone from a 65 year old women. She was told from CC customer support the phone is unlocked.

However the phone was SIM Network locked. I called the CC support for unlocking and I was told they cannot because I do not have an account instead call phone manufacturer Huawaei (HW). HW customer support told me that it is CC who has put the SIM Network lock thus CC has the pin to unlock SIM. I called in CC and one support team suggested that I should buy a SIM card and become a customer and they may be able to provide me the PIN.

I went and bought SIM and activated it and later asked the PIN. From then on I spent 4 hours on one Saturday and 6 hours next Sunday on customer support. One point one customer support told me as I do not have the original activation code with the package of the phone they may not able to provide PIN. PIN requires original activation code.

I finally manged to find the original Activation Code in the phone package and guess what now CC customer support now tells me that there is not SIM Unlock PIN. Finally I realized, customer support is misleading me and cancelled account.

I have manged to unlock the SIM Lock from a third party. However, if CC would have told me there is no SIM Unlock PIN I would not wasted my precious 10 hours calling CC customer support.

I have the same issue...what 3rdvparty did you go through to unlock it?

Sagar Nwd

I have been a satisfied CC customer for 2 years. I needed to reset my APN (data access) after fixing my cell phone.

This phone was an ATT android phone before I switched to CC. It might be helpful to know that the pin code was the last 4 digits of my CC phone number. The technical support did not know this and it is very unclear in the CC instructions. She finally found this out after talking to another support person. So..

if you are having problems with a CC in number, this might be what you need to know.

I will add that CC has been extremely easy to use, reasonable priced, and helpful, and even today they were very patient while we spent an hour getting my data to work.
