Consumer Cellular is no Bargain..Bad news!!

I too am being scammed by this company. Even though AARP has supported their service by association, it is not worth becoming involved with them.

I am a retired minister. There is not a lot of money to make the varied ends meet. Therefore, I am cautious where my dollars go. These folks have been charging me for a bogus telephone number.

Apparently an order was placed using my credit card..I have never had the telephone number in use and am not aware of the number being used. I disputed this with the credit card company. Now CC is charging me fees for late payments as though they are totally unaware of the ugly situation. They don't seem to have any fraud department who would handle this type of situation.

While I immediately cut off the service upon realizing the problem, They tell me I still owe back payments.

Oh my...!! Bad news!!

After reading the "AARP recommended" Consumer Cellular advertising in the AARP magazine, including a "Satisfaction Guarantee", 27 months ago my husband ordered 2 phones/2 sim cards (with numbers transferred over from prior cell phone company) from CC. Original sim cards had different numbers and, after contacting customer service, we were advised to send them back and once received, we would get correct ones. He simultaneously signed up for auto pay. We got the correct cards, and charges were consistent every month. Only time we were charged more was when we went to Canada and arranged for call forwarding and international billing on "both" lines for one month. Then a few weeks ago, when changing account from my husband's name to my name, the rep had to go through everything on a recorded call and mentioned a third line that we were being charged for. (He had no response when I asked why this was not brought up last year when I requested the international service.) Turns out they only closed one of the 2 original sim cards they had sent us in error and had been charging us for the other one for 27 months at about $9.95 a month. Their mistake, but initially they only would give us a 3 month credit. Then after much time spent on the phone and finding our original emails documenting/confirming ordering 2 lines only, they upped it to 6 months. A complaint to AARP got us a whopping 2 extra month's credit. That means we have over paid for 19 months (just under $180) for THEIR mistake and neither CC or AARP is willing to fix this...saying they made a BIG accommodation giving us 8 months credit as their POLICY is 3 months, stating that we were responsible to find this on our bill. The fact is, that we were never sent a bill. Even when we figured out how to sign in to our account online and with assistance, get to the bill, the complexity of it was amazing (and I have an MBA!). Now, after reading the other complaints, I realize that Consumer Cellular is totally unethical and perhaps worse; that AARP DOES NOT stand behind its members and that there is little or no protection for the consumer.

Company cannot use their. Own bill paying service

The credit card I previously had used to auto pay for my Consumer Cellular monthly bill was fraudulently used, therefore I had to call Consumer Cellular to let the company I would replace that card when I received my new card. I called customer service and upon finding it would be a minimum of 1/2 hour, I used Consumer Cellular's payment site. I checked the next day and knew that. I had put in the new credit card number and expiration date. Today I find that a late charge has been added to my bill stating it was past due. I called again today and had to pay on an automated service because again you could not get a service rep. I will get this info to BBB service as well as AARP. I am a very dissatisfied customer and will look into changing my service.

Doro 618 problems

Signed up on Aug. 13, 2014.

No problems until the one year warranty passed. The phones(we have 2) stopped working with the Uconnect bluetooth in our van. Response from Consumer Cellular did not correct the problem. U connect stated the problem was with the phones as U Connect worked fine with another manufacturer.

Yesterday, one of our phones would not complete a call. I contacted Consumer Cellular CC and went thru many resets only to be told that the phone was no longer in warranty and I needed to buy another phone. (Built in obsolesence).

I cancelled the service for that phone as I only use it occassionally and probably had only 3 hours or less in use. Very unsatisfied and will be looking at a different cell provider.

Canceled service and was billed $93.00 - WORST CONDUCT EVER

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I transferred my service to Verizon in December. I received a final consumer cellular bill later that month for $24, I went online and it told me my balance was $5 and I paid it. Later I saw that consumer cellular charged my credit card for the $24. I disputed this charge with my credit card company for $19 (minus the $5 I meant to pay). I then got an email from consumer cellular saying they were sorry for the over charge and that my account was now closed. In January I received a bill from consumer cellular for not only the $24 put and added $25 "service fee" for disputing against consumer cellular with my credit card company. I spoke with consumer cellular and they said that unless I dropped the dispute the charge would remain. I called my credit card company and dropped the dispute, in the meantime consumer cellular tacked on an additional $10 late fee. Upon getting the bill with the new amount, I called consumer cellular again and they proceeded to tell me that I never dropped my dispute and that they wouldn't work with me until I did. I AGAIN called my credit card company and was told that yes it had been dropped. By now I received another bill from consumer cellular adding even ANOTHER $10 late fee. I called consumer cellular and they told me that a supervisor would call me the next day. I never received that - even to this day, almost a month later. Yesterday I got another consumer cellular bill with even ANOTHER $10 late fee charge added and when I called, they told me that they had turned my account into the collection agency and that there was not anything they could do at this point, it was now out of their hands. The lady also proceeded to tell me that I hadn't called or talked to anyone since January! I have cell phone records that show that's not true. She then told me that a supervisor called me twice leaving messages - mysteriously I never received any. I took down the phone number for the collection agency and gave them a call when they told me my balance was now $93. I have perfect credit, so understandably all of this has made me livid! What else can I do? I paid the *** bill. I wish I could afford take this company to court, because this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth - and BULL!

Received a replacement phone - didn't work after close to 3 hours with tech. rep. He said he'd send a postage-paid return label. Couldn't be without cell, so purchased identical phone @Target, had it activated next day. Waited for the return label ...... three weeks later, my credit card bill still showed the defunct phone charge. Disputed said charge, called C.C. again to get label. One week after dispute, C.C. terminated service until I paid the charge for the defunct phone and a $25 late charge. Removed same, paid fee but won't have service for 30 days. Changed carriers.

Called for three days trying to find out what they added to my bill to put it over $200, my normal bill is $ 46, due to unusual high call volume sat in hold for better than 45 minutes had to hang up lunch hour was about over. I review the bill and it says it was too late to tell me why they added $160++ to my bill but the money is due immediatley. They have the time to add the money but they do not have the time to explain it. Great customer service!

Consumer Cellular - Account Review from Sacramento, California

First of all, i can't believe or don't understand how BBB gave 5 stars to Consumer Cellular. Also. I cannot rely on BBB, because I went to a auto service station because the station had BBB sign, but the station lied and made my car condition worse and overcharged. So after that incident, i do not go by BBB sign displayed on prrmises.

I was ripped off and deceived by Consumer Cellular in April 2014. After used the phone, I learned the minutes are charged even on the weekends which is unlike ordinary phones - they didn't even tell me that in advance. It's not economic. Its same price as regular cellular phone after they added up this and thst. So it was not practical for me. So i told them I want to cancel the contract.

They are lyers and thieves. I opened an account through AARP magazine, because I trust/ed AARP. But later on I realized AARP has nothing to do with Consumer Cellular. AARP better not advertise Consumer Cellular unless ensure the company is honesth and trustworthy because AARP could look bad as well.

Consumet Cellular said there's no hidden fee if i cancel within timeframe and i had only 2, 3 weeks and i didnt use all of the data. But they billed me $100 for prorated when I cancelled the contract with Consumer Celluar within 3 weeks. I was not going to complain, but when i just happened to see the numerous complaints, i had a second thought to tell the whole world so less people be victimized. Also my coworker told me i should have complained. So here I am complaining. Every Consumer Cellular customers, stay away from Consumer Cellular!!!

Incoming calls charge

"Just started service with consumer cellular. Customer service was great.

The only thing I was NOT told is that I am being charged for calls into my cell phone. I don't get it--the other party is paying to call me and now I have to pay too. It sounds like we are being "screwed" from both sides." Now I have to play "monitor " and check my usage tally every other day, or down the road I will have to pay for over usage.

Being a senior, and an AARP member, I feel that AARP bears some responsibility for this problem. I trusted both of them and they were not upfront about this situation of incoming calls.

I think the idea of charging for inbound calls is a RIP OFF, we should not have to pay another customer and carrier’s charges. And if so desired we should be able to get UNLIMTED Talk, text, data in a package, affordable to Fixed income seniors! That AARP is for the Rich Seniors, don’t be fooled, Onsumer Cellular charges for every item, you’re not saving anything when add up what you need and want.

I have the same issue and getting charged international text messages that I did not make. Consumer Cellular tells me it is coming from my phone.

I tell them I am not making them and to block it.

They say they cant block it. It started when I switched to Consumer cellular.

yes, i see this problem of being charged for incoming calls, which i feel is totally not fair. i have been with consumer cellular for some time now and fine that i have been telling my friends and family to call me on my land line.

i have unlimited minutes on incoming calls.

so, i prefer not to use my cell phone minutes on incoming calls. i would like to know the reason why we are charged for incoming calls.thank you

32 Mins of Calls All of a Sudden?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
For the past two days almost, we've had 32 mins of our allowance left to use. Then this morning I get a missed call and voicemail and soon after we get a usage alert telling us we've used up all of our minutes?? Checking the usage on the website is as clear as mud because it doesn't seem able to list the calls in chronological order. And this after we had previously been scammed for data updates for things we weren't using. Rep told me that the app owners can send through updates and charge us for them. Technically, that means they could send through $1000.00 worth of updates and we'd be liable for those. We turned off data and now it looks like they are moving on to mystery calls.

Consumer Cellular Sucks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My elderly father purchased their service and within 5 months the phone broke.

I contacted them a month ago to send a loaner phone and to service the original phone. The rep told me they could send a form for the loaner and send a mailer to return the phone. I never received either. When I called to cancel the service they said they can cancel it but my father owes a month of service. How can you charge a month of service for a phone that was unusable?!

I cancelled the service and now they are trying to charge my elderly father for a month of service during which he never even used the phone.

Avoid Consumer Cellular at all costs. They prey on the elderly!!

My mother in law has had service for 2 years, her phones were cut off today. CC said her son owed a bill and she had let him use one of her phones, and until she paid his bill she could no longer have service.

She is 82 years old he is 60. How can they tell her who and who can not use her phone. Told her they would leave 911 on.

She has never been late on her service. How can they make her pay his bill?

Network is unavailable

Network has been unavailable for over 24 hours. This is my only phone. Current bill was paid on time. What is the problem? I cannot call you to report the problem as I have no phone service. There is no reason to add 100 words. The problem has been stated clearly already. I could type in my favorite poem or song lyrics or the Declaration of Independence, butt that would not clarify anything. Why the 100 word requirement???? Well, I made it to 83 words, guess I can come up with a few more. I NEED MY NETWORK SERVICE BACK NOW!!
