Horrible customer service, deceiving billing practices and false advertisement

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Have been a customer of Consumer Cellular for many years (5+).

Have had issues paying bill on their site from phone from them. Called customer service and treated with disrespect as well as blaming it on me.

The site states balance paid but processing button still spinning. No explanation from them just that it's my fault.

Two months ago my bill increased due to new charge for not using e-dbilling. No notification of this via email, text or call. Again called customer service and basically told it is what it is and no idea why I wasn't notified.

He did somewhat slip and said it was for new customers.

When I pointed out I have been a long time customer he said nothing, Wrote to corporate and they basically ignored my letter

They falsely advertise that they are #1 in customer service and that their services are geared towards senior citizens but the customer service sucks and instead of thinking of seniors they go out of their way to charge more and/or sneak in charges that impact seniors pocket books. Whoever decided in their mgmt to do this is stupid and should be held accountable for scamming people.

  • Customer service - unable to resolve and poor advice

Preferred solution: Explanation for the new charge for e-billing and no notification sent out advising of this and why I was told this was for new customers but yet I am a long time customer and still getting charged

If you are not satisfied, stop the service. In your demographic you are not paying enough on any one thing on a monthly basis for any company to care.

They are not going to contact you or care when you call. I know you sit there with nothing to do and look at any $3 or $5 charge as a reason to launch an inquest.

But either stop the service, don’t make that purchase or don’t patronize the business. Others have life to live.

Walking away is an option, it doesn't stop companies from advertising false services or providing horrible customer service! If you like to stay silent on treatment/services you receive that are not good that is your choice, but I don't believe in letting companies get away with that and I have the right to express my opinions just like you do.

If more people complain maybe a company will make some changes.

The amount in my case is insignificant but in the larger picture the company is racking up a large amount by charging for a service that they did not even advise that they were going to start charging. Silence is not always right or golden If you like to just "run away" or stay "silent" again your choice, but it seems like you don't really care about how you are treated or anyone else for that matter.

Not running away from anything. If something goes up a few dollars, I look , compare and make a decision. I always find my answer And adjust accordingly.

They keep billing me for service I'm not using and have requested to be canceled multiple times

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A few months ago I made the mistake of requesting a consumer cellular SIM card online. However, upon receiving the SIM card it was discovered that since it had a number already assigned to it I could not port my current number to it.

As a result of this, the customer service agent assured me that this account would be canceled and a new SIM card would be sent which I gladly agreed to pay for and was told then I would receive a bill credit for once the new account was set up. Since that time however, I've continued to receive billing notices for not one but two months and now I'm receiving daily annoying messages from consumer Cellular telling me my account is past due. Additionally, the SIM card never even arrived. So now they expect me to pay for service that I've never used, that was supposed to be canceled, and which has a phone number I couldn't even tell you what it was is I've never used it.

When they leave their daily messages, an 888 number is given in which I'm instructed to call to end the Consumer Cellular messages. However, when I call that number and cancel my service for the 10th time through the automated system it then, after accepting my pin, wants to connect me to a customer service agent to which I have no reason to talk to nor do I have the time to talk to. So in addition to their sickeningly stupid and disgustingly dumb down commercials, they suck at billing and customer service.

This company is nothing more than just another huge greedy money grabbing conglomerate with slick marketing like Verizon and T-Mobile which also suck *** to the hilt. Not only are their prices nothing special, they also do not accept the ACP for those that qualify.

Bad service and then stold my money

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Well...I got smarter from dealing with consumer cellular. They have large rooms of employees, because they have a large amount of problems. They don't own the towers and also don't know what's going on with them. I had them for 2 years. Internet would shut off when throttled down after 2 weeks use. When I talked to billing and asked them if they would pay for something they didn't get. I got a smart aleck reply and hung up on. 2 days later my service was shut off. Then they charged my credit card for 2 months afterward. Still have not got my money back.

Vaunted US Customer Service Team -“All Hat, No Cattle”

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Earlier this year a thief made off with my cellphone and tablet which, in today's digitized world, was essentially my life, particularly when considering the ubiquitous role your phone number plays in 2-factor authentication. Temporarily lost were all my passwords, access to financial resources, literally everything important.

I say temporarily because it was all available once I was able to recover and use my phone number again. My definition of temporarily was 24-48 hours maximum. Immediately arranged to use a friends spare phone-an unlocked OnePlus 9. Obviously the next step was to contact Consumer Cellular.

First problem, it was a weekend after hours-NO ONE AVAILABLE! Little did I anticipate the clown car that showed up once I was finally able to connect. First was directed to go to Target (their retail partner) and pick up a new SIM card. Over the course of the next week I talked with at least a dozen so-called technical experts.

The answers I was given ranged from outright ignorance-phone not compatible, to downright arrogance-apparently I was incapable of doing anything remotely correct. I even went so far as to buy a Cheap Consumer Cellular phone in hopes that I could at least get my number working again. Then, after anguishing through this nightmare for a full week, the technician I spoke with told me it seems that no one had bothered to activate the SIM card I was trying to use! So, another trip to Target, another SIM card and same incompetence.

At this point I was already aware of the fact some of my accounts had been compromised and I had given up any hope that Consumer Cellular could or even would try to help me. I reluctantly accepted that my solution most likely involved switching to a MORE EXPENSIVE carrier. Even here CC did their utmost to make that process as slow and painful as possible, claiming they could not legally tell me my account number and would only be able to send it by mail. To add insult to injury they also made an unauthorized debit against my checking account that put me in overdraft.

Fortunately my bank agreed that perhaps the transaction was questionable enough that they recovered the money. Obviously I still need to deal with that.

I wonder if Consumer Cellular is willing to address the monetary damages I suffered as a consequence of their actions? Despite the fact my monthly bill is almost 2 times what I paid Consumer Cellular I am satisfied and actually feel my carrier is my friend not my enemy.

Consumer Cellular is AT&T in disguise

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Had them for a month, figuring that I'd give AT&T another shot after what they put me through 20 years ago. Boy was I wrong! Dropped calls like flies along with too many calls where I randomly couldn't hear who I was speaking to and they randomly couldn't hear me, the very things I remember AT&T being famous for. Consumer Cellular support people speak English and are all in the US, but have somewhat limited knowledge. What good is US-based support if the cellular service sucks? BTW, AT&T is amongst the lowest rated carriers in Consumer Reports.

I can't believe these low ratings

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Clearly none of the whiners on this page have had to deal with AT&T as the carrier. I spent 5 months being frustrated with them confusing my plan and trying to take a promotion away I had been promised.

The Rep who signed me up just didn't want to do his job. It caused multiple problems. If you have any issues, You get someone "offshore" Who makes you repeat your name and your phone number until you want to scream. No matter what you say, they can't figure it out.

It was a huge relief to leave AT&T and speak to a real American who speaks English. The only problem I had when I switched to consumer cellular was the AT&T employees screwing it up. Everyone at CC has been helpful and patient porting my lines over and getting me established.

I get tired of online cry babies and felt a need to make a positive statement. These people should stay on X with the other grumpy ***

Did you know that Consumer Cellular uses AT&T towers? The do not have their own.

So Consumer Cellular is really AT&T with an orange sweater (like the guy in the ads). Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Unreliable Service And Could Be A National Security Issue In My Case

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Calls Keep Dropping Same Time Each Day

My calls keep dropping every minute the same day, every day, for only 1 minute at a time, then the service resumes. Sometimes it happens twice a day.

Consumer Cellular cannot figure this out so I reported it to the regulators in the industry and others who are now investigating.

Does anyone else have the same or similar issue? I asked CC to send out a tech but they do not have them on staff! They use AT&T towers and signals.

Well, guess what? AT&T is now bombarding me with ads to switch to them from Consumer Cellular.

Duh. CC couldn't figure out that AT&T is their enemy, and now that they have CC's customer list they can aggressively go after their customers?

It would not surprise me if AT&T is purposely dropping my calls to make CC look bad in their effort to get customers to switch to them from CC. This whole situation smells, and I have even asked the FBI to look into it since it is possible that a rogue nation is trying to break into the USA telecom space and found that Consumer Cellular is the weak link. This could be serious.

Why can't Consumer Cellular figure this out?

Why can't they have an AT&T tech come out to evaluate this situation as I requested? I feel like CC did a hit-and-run just for the money. But I am holding them accountable, and so too will the FCC. If they are not going to answer me, they will need to answer to those above them.

I bought Consumer Cellular service looking for a deal, and got an ordeal instead!

Be a professional company and fix your problem! I feel like this was a bait and switch illegal practice that needs to be investigated by the feds.

My phone will not make call, error, your phone not registered on a network,

error on my phone, your phone not registered on a network, I called customer support, 2/22/24 on or about 1100hr, I spoke with Kelvin, he tried to give me some BS, for instance, I was calling on my wife phone and I asked him to check my phone to verify that it is assigned in consumer cellular network, he did not ask me what my phone number was, I told him I have a background in the information technology/phone network. He continue on as if he had got an attituded with me, he said give me a second, there everything looks good, no problem here, it's the whole network problem, keep watching the tv and everything will be fine.

I informed him I don't it when someone give me some BS like the way you just did, I also stated about six months ago the same thing happen to my phone and it had to be added again. I said you might be losing a customer here because of your action, his reply, we hate to see you go but if you got to go, you got to go.

Your network probably relies on an AT&T tower. There is a nationwide issue today 2/22/24.

I had a similar problem at Target, and after all that it was not the SIM card as I was told, but a faulty device with the antennas that the company had to replace. I want quality and value, not cheap stuff even if at a low price.
